By The Light Of The Moon
Tri-Dosha founder, Sunita Passi, gets under the skin of our Medical Herbalist, Victoria Ward.
Selene, the Greeks called her. We know her as the moon. She’s orbited above; watched human civilisations come and go; listened to our prayers; witnessed our dreams; seen some of them become realities. Few ask what the experience is like for her. One of those who does have a lunar connection is herbalist Victoria Ward, whose relationship with moon and plants goes back to her early years.
“Plants have been a constant source of wonder and joy for me since childhood. The seeds were planted then.”
Your passion for herbalism is deep-rooted…
“Yes! Sometimes those connections have a truth to them, even if they sound like puns. Think about the word forest. Slow it down. For…rest. That’s why people spent time in the woods. To reconnect with themselves – have a rest from whatever stresses and strains they’re experiencing.”
It’s not far from there to herbalism.
“Some plants have the ability when carefully selected to work at quite deep ‘energetic’ levels. Medicinal plants can treat chronic or acute health problems and address coexisting health conditions in conjunction with conventional treatments. We can use these plants to enhance wellbeing by bringing balance to our bodily systems, calming and regulating.”
What about on a day to day basis?
“I love to cook and eat lots of fresh, quality food, often choosing seasonal and local produce. I spend as much time outdoors as I can as being amongst nature is great therapy to me, I find gardening keeps me positive as it encourages one to always look forward.
“I think exercise is incredibly enhancing to wellbeing, both physically and emotionally and I love running and horse riding. I’ve practised yoga since my late teens and find it too works on many levels and is very balancing. Yoga is a great adjunct to other physical activities and works on a deeper level.”
And what about the products you use?
“Plants are crucial in the skincare products I choose. The more natural and unadulterated the better! I love essential oils and take herbal tincture mixes for maintaining health and addressing any issues.”
I love your enthusiasm. What is Herbalism with Victoria Ward about?
“Mainly about sharing my passion and knowledge about plants with others. I enjoy helping people to see and feel the amazing myriad of benefits that can be gained from bringing herbs into their lives. There are many ways in which this can be facilitated, from countryside walks, herb workshops and plant meditations.”
